Novosibirsk Scientists Analyze the Causes of Parkinson’s Disease

17 January 2023

The employees of epigenetics laboratory of the Cytology and Genetics Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences under the leadership of Professor Suren Minasovich Zakiyan, Doctor of biological sciences have been in mutually-beneficial collaboration with the specialists of the Federal Neurosurgical Center headed by Dr.Jamil Rzaev, MD, PhD, Physician-in-Chief for many years already.

This collaboration continues producing new results. The DNA of 5 patients with early onset of Parkinson’s disease was sequenced and studied in the framework of a new project. Usually the Parkinson’s disease develops in senior people but sometimes the disease has an onset in 30-40-year old patients. The scientists suppose that this is connected with genetic mechanisms. As a result, they managed to identify pathological mutations of different genes in each patient.
