“Microvascular suture training” hands-on course

02 March 2022

Hands-on course on microvascular suture training was held at the premises of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) from April 19 till 22, 2021 supported by “Ethicon” and “Baxter” companies. Neurosurgeons from different cities of our country were among the participants; they represented Moscow, Krasnodar, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Osh (Kyrgyz Republic).

During the course the faculties taught the students not only the basic skills but also shared the nuances of surgery. As a result of a 4-days’ course all the students created functioning end-to-end, end-to-side anastomoses by themselves; some of the students even tried to create more complex side-to-side anastomoses.

Some lectures were delivered during the course, on types of anastomoses and their application in neurosurgery, on suture materials and hemostatic agents that are used during surgery.

One of the student, our colleague from Krasnodar, Dr.Vyacheslav V.Tkachev presented his short report. Dr.Tkachev told how his first visit of the course helped him to implement anastomoses surgery into clinical practice of the hospital where he works. The students had an opportunity to attend the surgical show-case on creation of extra-intracranial microanastomoses from small approach. The operator was Andrey V.Dubovoy, a neurosurgeon of the neurovascular division of our Center.
