Results of the XVIth meeting of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro”.

Monthly meeting of Association took place in 2 cities – in Irkutsk and Novosibirsk on February 26.

In Novosibirsk the meeting was held at the premises of the Federal Neurosurgical Center and it was dedicated to transforaminal spinal cord endoscopic surgery – this is a modern treatment method of intervertebral disks of spinal cord. This method belongs to “full-endoscopic” and allows performing operations on compressed nerve root via a small hole. The operation is accompanied by a minimal trauma of muscular-ligamentous masses of spinal cord and minimal blood loss (10-30 ml). The patients start walking after such minimally invasive procedure after 3-4 days and may be released from hospital the next day.

The following surgical cases were showed to the specialists of spinal division before the scientific program:

• TESSYS – transforaminal resection of L4/L5 or L5/S1 sequester;

• TESSYS - transforaminal resection of L4/L5 or L5/S1 sequester with decompression of nerve structures in the area of foramina and lateral recess of spinal canal.

During the conference Dr.Ivan V.Volkov, a neurosurgeon, PhD, an employee of neurosurgical division of the ”Nikiforov Russian Center of Emergency and Radiation Medicine” of the Ministry of Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (St.-Petersburg) presented his lecture on “Endoscopic methods in the surgery of degenerative spinal cord diseases” and Dr.Roman V.Khalepa, a neurosurgeon of spinal division of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) made a report on “Application of thoracoscopic video-assistance in treatment of spinal disorders”.

Doctors not only from Novosibirsk and its region but also from Barnaul joined the meeting. The meeting in Irkutsk was held at the premises of Irkutsk clinical hospital #3. The chairman of the meeting was Dr.Sergey I.Petrov, the chief non-staff specialist of the Ministry of Public Health of Irkutsk region in neurosurgery (the chief neurosurgeon of Irkutsk region), the head of neurosurgical division of Irkutsk regional clinical hospital.

Jamil A.Rzaev, physician-in-chief of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) opened the meeting by his report on the surgery of petroclival meningiomas. He told the audience about special aspects and difficulties of surgical approach to this zone with demonstration of intraoperational videos.

After that Dr.Mikhail E.Amelin, the head of radiological division of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) made a report on the “Visualization methods in research studies of cerebral perfusion”. The main part of the report was dedicated to perfusion computer tomography and its application in different types of pathological conditions (Acute Cerebrovascular Event, mass-lesions and control of their changing after surgical and radiological procedures).

The third report on “Ultrasound diagnostics in ischemic stroke” was presented by Laila T.Khamidova, senior research scientist of emergency neurology division of N.V.Sklifosovsky Scientific Research Institute of First Aid (Moscow), who told about modern approaches and possibilities of ultrasound visualization in cases of Acute Cerebrovascular Events and conditions that could provoke such events (atherosclerosis, dissection of magistral arteries of neck and head).

Dr.Alisher H.Dzhumabaev, a neurosurgeon of Irkutsk regional clinical hospital told about modern stabilization methods in spine surgery: indications, counterindications and application conditions. He highlighted advantages and special aspects of different methods of instrumental stabilization of spondyles on genuine materials.

The meeting continued by the presentation of Eduard B.Borisov, Chief neurosurgeon of the Buryat Republic, the head of neurosurgical division of N.A.Semashko Republic clinical hospital (Ulan-Ude). He spoke on “Organization of neurosurgical service of N.A.Semashko Republic clinical hospital, Ulan-Ude”. The report was dedicated to the main historical milestones and modern state of neurosurgical aid in the Buryat Republic.

Scientific program of the meeting was finished by Aleksandr V.Semenov, the head of the neurosurgical division of Irkutsk State clinical hospital #3. He presented the report on “Experience of trigeminal neuralgia treatment by paracentetic glycerin rhizotomy by Hakanson”. Dr.Semenov told about the patients’ choice for this treatment method, indications and counterindications, the main stages of surgical approach and results of this treatment method.

Neurosurgeons, radiologists and neurologists from Irkutsk and its region have visited this event.

Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons is trying to widen the geography of its activities and hold its events in different cities of Russia.
