17 August 2016

On February 25, 2014 the doctors from neurosurgical division #4 (oncological) together with the Head of neoplasty division with microsurgical equipment of R&D Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after R.R.Vreden (St.-Petersburg) Rodomanova Ljubov Anatolievna performed an operation on oncotomy in the patient with a giant tumor of middle cranial fossa that occurred in evident headaches, wide left eye-ball, visual impairment on the left, pain in the process of mastication.

Complexity of this tumor position is that it invades straight into 5 different anatomic areas: into eyehole, sphenoid sinus, maxillary sinus, inside the skull and also out of the skull – into infratemporal fossa. Besides, the tumor destroyed the bones of the middle cranial fossa and eyehole bones on its way.

One of the most significant difficulties in that situation is the filling of the huge skull base defects after oncotomy. Very often it demands an additional surgical procedure and is a very difficult process. Nevertheless, the tumor was successfully removed and just after that process cranioplasty was performed with the help of the patient’s tissues without any additional discissions.

At present the patient is in the patient’s room, he is OK.
