Results of the XVth meeting of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro”.
17 August 2016
On January 29 a regular meeting of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro” was held at the premises of Novokuznetsk State clinical hospital #29. Anatoliy A.Lutsik, MD, Professor, The Head of neurosurgical division of Novokuznetsk State Extension Course University for Medical Practitioners, Director of Novokuznetsk neurosurgical hospital, addressed the audience with welcome words.

Ivan I.Vasilenko, a neurosurgeon of spinal division of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) opened scientific program with a report on “Changes of sagittal balance in degenerative disk disease”. The report contained information about the types of sagittal balance, its disorders and ways of correction, the reasons, pathogeny of body’s balance disorders and treatment tactics were explained. The report of Dr.Vasilenko gave rise to interest among the audience and awoke a long discussion.

The next report on “Surgical treatment of patients with different forms of vertebra-basilar circulatory collapse” was presented by Anatoliy A.Lutsik, MD, Professor, The Head of neurosurgical division of Novokuznetsk State Extension Course University for Medical Practitioners, Director of Novokuznetsk neurosurgical hospital. He told about the reasons of vertebro-basilar circulatory collapse, its clinical aspects, difficulties in diagnostics and surgical treatment. This academic report covered all problems of this difficult pathology in detail.

Then Gleb Y.Bondarenko, PhD, the Head of neurosurgical division of the State clinical hospital #29 told about usage of ventral decompressive stabilizing operations in complicated fractures of dorsal spine. He laid an emphasis on surgical treatment of this pathology. The report contained information about advantages of ventral methods of surgical treatment in cases of dorsal spine traumas – anterior approach allows performing decompression of spinal cord and stabilization simultaneously without necessity of having the second stage of surgical treatment. This improves treatment results and shortens the period of patient’s staying in the hospital.

After a brilliant report of Dr.Bondarenko, a series of reports was continued by Aleksandr G.Epifantsev, PhD, Associate professor of neurosurgical division of Novokuznetsk State Extension Course University for Medical Practitioners, the Head of neurosurgical division of State clinical hospital #1. In his report on “The usage of ventral decompressive stabilizing operations in cases of spondylolisthesis of lumbar vertebra” he told about long-term experience of usage and advantages of decompressive stabilizing surgical procedures on lumbar spine. This approach and spondylolisthesis treatment method was launched in Novokuznetsk neurosurgical school under the leadership of A.I.Osna and it is still used up to now.

Igor V.Gavrilov, a neurosurgeon of Novokuznetsk State clinical hospital #1 presented a report on “New approaches to surgical treatment of recurrence of lumbar intervertebral disks”. He spoke in detail about interior decompressive stabilizing procedures in recurrent hernia of intervertebral disks – it’s not a standard approach which usage allows eliminating compressing substrate and preventing reherniation without root damaging because this surgical procedure is a radical one.

The final report on “Surgical approach to treatment of lumbar spine stenosis in cases of degenerative-dystrophic diseases of lumbar spine in patients of elderly and old age” was presented by Roman V.Khalepa, a neurosurgeon of spinal division of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk). Dr.Khalepa covered problems and peculiarities of surgical treatment of degenerative stenosis of vertebral canal at lumbar level in patients of elderly age. The patients have reduced capability for self-care, severe comorbidity that is why surgical treatment of such patients may worsen their state of health. It’s important to minimize surgical trauma for patients of elderly age to make the quality of their lives better.

Joint meeting of Novosibirsk and Kuzbass neurosurgeons awoke wide resonance among the audience and we do hope that it will drive to fruitful cooperation in the future.
