Joint meeting of SibNeuro and Association of Neurosurgeons of Novosibirsk and Novosibirsk region.

The Chairman of the meeting was Aleksandr B.Dmitryev, the chief of the functional division of the Federal Neurosurgical Center. 

The first lecturer was Dr.Anton Y.Kordonskiy, a neurosurgeon from emergency neurosurgery division of N.V.Sklifosovskiy Scientific Research Institute of First Aid. The theme of his report was“Tactics of surgical treatment of patients with severe brain contusions”. In his report he developed pathophysiological aspects of severe brain contusions. Modern tendencies in treatment of severe brain injury were reflected in the report, besides, Dr.Kordonskiy presented his own results in solving of such problem. The report provoked great interest and approval of the participants. 

The next lecturer was Dr.German V.Letyagin, the chief of the pediatric division of the Federal Neurosurgical Center of Novosibirsk. Dr.Letyagin told the audience about surgical tactics of craniosynostosis treatment. He presented general overview of all the types of synostosis and indicated optimal time for performing surgical procedure, dimension of such procedure and peculiarities of each case of synostosis. There were presented detailed characteristics of such surgical procedures, anesthesiological nuances of surgical aid, acute and late complications, methods of these problems’ prevention. 

The third report was presented by Professor Natalia V.Shuleshova from the 1st St.-Petersburg State Medical University named after Academician I.P.Pavlov (department of neurology and neurosurgery). Her report “Pseudotumor cerebri” was dedicated to diagnostics and treatment of intracranial hypertension. VP and LP shunting were presented as treatment methods. 

After a short break a series of reports was continued by the report of Dr.Dmitry Y.Rogov, a neurosurgeon of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk). He told the audience about modern criteria of patients’ selection with extra pyramid pathology for surgical treatment. The principles of tactics violation, diagnostics, and preoperative assessment of patients with motor defects in the whole and in particular pathology were discussed during his report. Common principles of surgical treatment of extra pyramid pathology were also reviewed. 

Professor Nadezhda A.Malkova, the Head of the Center of Multiple Sclerosis and other Autoimmune Diseases of nervous system (Novosibirsk State Regional Clinical Hospital) reported abouttumors-like sites in multiple sclerosis. Professor Malkova told about differential diagnostics of mass lesions of brain and spinal cord with demyelinating diseases. She presented clinical cases of different tumor-like sites. 

As always, after the reports there was an interesting discussion. At the end of the meeting Dr.Dmitryev announced agenda of the IX Meeting of SibNeuro.
