Seminar on Treatment and Rehabilitation of Dysphagia Problems

A seminar on current problems of treatment and rehabilitation of dysphagia was held on November 17, 2022 at the premises of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk). Physicians and specialists on medical rehabilitation from Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, St.-Petersburg, Omsk and Novokuznetsk had joined together to discuss a topical theme of swallowing restoration in various categories of patients and to share their experience.

Andrey A.Belkin, MD, PhD, Professor, Chief external expert on medical rehabilitation of the Healthcare Ministry of Russia in the Ural Federal District, Director of Clinical Brain Institute, Professor of physical and rehabilitation medicine department of the Ural State Medical University (Yekaterinburg) presented 2 reports. He told the audience about the reasons of swallowing problems disorders in patients after long staying on artificial respiration; he presented analysis of up-to-date diagnostic methods and treatment in the world practice as well as in Russia.

His second report was devoted to the experience of patients with dysphagia rehabilitation in the Clinical Brain Institute (Yekaterinburg).

A medical speech therapist from St.-Petersburg, Tatyana S.Khotyakova presented the program of swallowing restoration in post-stroke patients. She described in detail practical methods of clinical assessment of swallowing function and rehabilitation that evoked a vivid interest of colleagues-speech therapists.

The following specialists of our Center had also shared their successful experience and knowledge in this sphere: Dr.Galina Moysak (neurologist), Dr.Elena Druzhinina (endoscopist), Dr.Vladimir Gromatskiy (intensivist) and Dr.Galina Gunenko (speech therapist).

The participants of the seminar continued discussing professional issues after the end of the event.
