Ophthalmology in Neurosurgery

Eyes are the part of brain put on the periphery.

August 8 launched in 2004 is a professional holiday for ophthalmologists. The date of the holidays is a birthday of the famous Russian ophthalmologist, Academician Svyatoslav Fedorov.

Our Center has a specialist in ophthalmology – neuroophthalmology – this is Dr.Tamara K.Istomina. Neuroophthalmology is a very limited specialty combining neurology and ophthalmology. Some brain diseases are accompanied by eye ground changes connected with brain pathology.

Patients’ examination in the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) is performed with the help of 3 main devices: autorefractometer – to determine eye optics; bio microscope – to examine anterior and interior segments; and optical coherent tomograph – that is a scanning system allowing evaluation of eye ground tissues morphology.
