“Perioperative complications in neurosurgery and traumatology: how I managed it”, a scientific conference

03 March 2022

A conference on “Perioperative complications in neurosurgery and traumatology: how I managed it” was held in Krasnoyarsk on September 25, 2021. The Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) and “SibNeuro” Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons were among the organizers of the conference.

More than 10 specialists from Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk visited the meeting. The specialists of the Federal Neurosurgical Center, Novosibirsk Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedy and Meshalkin National Research Institute presented their reports in plenary and sectional sessions. It’s always pleasant to visit Krasnoyarsk not only because it’s a very hospitable city but also because you know that like-minded persons live and work in this city.

The Chairman of the conference, Professor Pavel G.Shnyakin managed to disprove an existing phrase that the victory has a lot of fathers but the defeat is always an orphan.

The program is an example of the fact that mature surgeons, professionals do not close their eyes on this sphere of our professional life. In medicine, as well as in sports or any other sphere of a human activity, there are victories and discomfitures. One doesn’t have to be afraid to admit them. It’s necessary to make conclusions and analyze all the mistakes.

A nice monument to Chekhov is place near the hotel where the participants of the conference stayed. The words of the famous Russian writer enchased on the monument’s postament: “…what a full, clever and challenging life will brighten this riverside!”

Another phrase of Anton Pavlovich comes to mind: “I believe in individuals, I see safety in private persons spread over Russia here and there – no matter whether they are highbrows or peasants – the power is in them though there are few of them”.

There are a lot of similar people in Krasnoyarsk. The conference was held in warm, friendly and hospitable atmosphere. Hospitability is a thing that unites us, neurosurgeons and doctors of other professions and makes us a whole organism. It’s very important to pull people out from “it’s no concern of mine” state and place them into “I share in the common cause” state. That is exactly what Krasnoyarsk colleagues managed to do and I would like to thank them for this.
