The days of facial pain in the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk)

The days of facial pain in the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk)
02 March 2022

Broadened consultations and some surgery were performed to the patients with facial pain during June 21-22, 2021.

Similar scientific and practical events are held in our Center not for the first time. As a rule the patients with complex pain syndromes in facial area from all over the country are invited to the Center twice a year. Apart from the doctors of the Center – neurologists and neurosurgeons, the leading specialists in this very narrow neurosurgical sphere are invited to Novosibirsk. The following specialists took part in such consultation during different years: Professor Yuriy A.Shulev (St.-Petersburg), Professor Marc Sindou (Lyon, France), Professor Kim Burchiel (Portland, Oregon, USA), Professor Taira (Tokyo, Japan), Professor Modji Hodai (Toronto, Canada). This time the leading participants of the consultation were Professor Konstantin V.Slavin (Chicago, USA) and Dr.Emil D.Isagulyan (Moscow).

20 patients were consulted in the policlinic division of the Center on June 21. The next day 3 patients with trigeminal (initial and recurrent after radio surgical treatment) and glossopharyngeal neuralgia were operated. Such “extensive consultations” of patients with facial pain are to some degree, unique for our country. There are some hospitals where the patients are offered different surgical technologies for management of facial pain. As for our Center, we gather the most difficult patients who had addressed to different medical institutions. The form of consultations itself supposes not only an ordinary policlinic examination and recommendations. In a greater degree it’s a deep discussion of a problem through the example of each complicated clinical case. So that is why similar “facial pain days in the Federal Neurosurgical Center” are visited by the doctors from different cities who are interested in this problem. This time the students from Irkutsk and Chelyabinsk came to Novosibirsk. Young colleagues had an opportunity to communicate with experienced specialists, to discuss a lot of interesting and very important things.
