One-day practical course on the “Functional anatomy of facial area. Botulin therapy of cranio-facial pathology” was held at the premises of the Federal Neurosurgical Center on March 27, 2021 led by Dr.Galina I.Moysak, neurologist of the Center, senior lecturer of the department of neurosciences of the Institute of medicine and psychology of Novosibirsk State University.

The course was held under support of “SibNeuro” Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons. “Ipsen” company was the sponsor of the event.

    

The course consisted of 3 parts: lectures, practice in the laboratory and patients service. Botulin therapists were the faculties of the course:

 

·         Larisa P.Shperling, MD, PhD, the Head of the regional Center of extrapyramidal disorders with a botulin-therapy cabinet (Novosibirsk);

·         Vasiliy V.Atamanov, plastic surgeon, ophthalmologist, the Head of the department of reconstructive and plastic surgery of Novosibirsk branch of the S.Fedorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution;

·         Natalia G.Zhukova, MD, PhD, Professor of neurological and neurosurgical department of the Siberian State Medical University (Novosibirsk).

 

The doctors of our Center also presented their reports on the issues of facial pain pathology management. Dr.Galina I.Moysak told about the indications to different types of surgery and the choice of optimal tactics of patients; guidance with some types of facial pain.

Dr.Viazhaj Dzhafarov, a neurosurgeon of the functional division of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) presented the results of hemifacial spasm surgery.

Dr.Tamara K.Istomina, ophthalmologist of the Federal Neurosurgical center (Novosibirsk) told the audience about therapy measures in lagophthalmos.

 

During the practical part of the course the students found out more about the face area anatomy, localization and layer-by-layer setup of facial and jaw muscles, vessels, nerves and glands of the face for more precise botulinum toxin administration and decrease of complications risks in the process of injections.

 

Various clinical cases of facial area pathology, blepharospasm, and orofacial dystonia were presented during the course. A lot of other questions were discussed.

 

The doctors from Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Omsk were among the participants of the course.
