Neurosurgeons of the oncological and vascular division of our Center performed an advanced surgical procedure on tumor removal. A giant tumor of a patient from Novokuznetsk destroyed frontal bone and brain tunic.

The patient seeked medical care at Kuzbass specialists but during surgery the surgeons decided to pass the patient to more experienced specialists and send the patient to the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk).

A neurosurgeon of the oncological department, Dr.Agadadash R.Kasymov explained that the patient had a giant tumor in the left frontal region. He noticed that such cases are very rare ones. Due to the tumor the patient could face speech disorders and behavioral changes in the future.

A multistep surgical procedure was performed: at first the vessels were embolized to avoid minimal blood loss; then the surgeons removed the tumor and performed the brain tunic and skull defects plastics. So the tumor was replaced by titanium plate.

“Immediate tumor removal could lead to non-controlled blood loss. So that is why we decided to perform a hybrid surgical procedure”, - explained Dr.Artyom M.Perfilyev, a neurosurgeon of the neurovascular division.

During the checkup in the center it was discovered that the brain tumor precipitated kidney cancer, the patient was not aware of that.

“This is a metastasis. The primary tumor site could be placed in different parts. Lungs, breast, kidney and prostatic gland tumors usually spread to brain”, - explained Dr.Anton V.Kalinovskiy, the Head of Neurooncological division.
