Results of The LXIVth meeting of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro”

The LXIVth meeting of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro” was held on March 27 at the premises of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk). 

 

Colleagues from Novosibirsk took part in this event.

Galina I. Moysak, PhD (Medicine), neurologist of the Federal Neurosurgical Center, was the Chairman of the meeting.

Larisa P. Shperling, PhD (Medicine), neurologist, head of the regional Center for extrapyramidal disorders with a botulinum therapy unit (Novosibirsk) opened the meeting with the report on Dopa-dependent dystonia or Segava syndrome in the clinical practice of a neurologist”. In her report Dr.Shperling revealed the features of course of this rare disease, noted the importance of early diagnosis of Segava dystonia and a good prognosis of the disease with early treatment with levodopa drugs. 

Then, in the report on “Camptocormia: a neurologist’s view”, she talked about variety of causes for the development of camptocormia symptom, their pathogenesis. She also demonstrated her own results of the successful use of botulinum therapy in this group of patients.

 


3.JPGThe meeting continued with a report of Dr. Ilya K. Berezin, medical psychologist of the Department of Restorative Medicine of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk) on “Methods of crisis assistance to patients with a neurosurgical profile”. In his report Dr.Berezin presented information about the stages of the patients’ experience of the disease, especially neurosurgical patients, noted the types of assistance provided by a psychologist and important points in the interaction between the attending medical doctor and the patient.

 

The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere. Each report evoked scientific interest among the audience, there was a significant discussion. The joint work of neurologists, neurosurgeons and doctors of related specialties is required in complex clinical cases, especially with camptocormia and various types of dystonia, as well as other pathologies, for the differential diagnosis of diseases of the nervous system and deciding on treatment tactics.
