The 1st Russian Congress of Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgeons.

On March 17-18, 2016 there was the 1st Russian Congress of Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgeons that was held at the premises of the Academician N.N.Burdenko Research Institute of Neurosurgery (Moscow). 

The main themes of the congress were the following: - Movement disorders; - Chronic pain syndromes; - Spasticity; - Radiosurgery; - Epilepsy; - Neuronavigation; - Neurovisualization; - Psychiatric neurosurgery; - Strategic trends. 

About 300 interested specialists from all over Russia and foreign countries participated in the event. Scientific program was presented by the lectures of the leading Russian and foreign specialists during plenary sections and oral report during break-out sessions. 

The Conference was opened by welcome words from the Director of Research Institute of Neurosurgery, Academician A.A.Potapov and Academician A.N.Konovalov. Konstantin V.Slavin, Professor, the head of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery of Illinois University (Chicago, the USA), was committed with a diploma and a gown of an honorary professor of the Academician N.N.Burdenko Research Institute of Neurosurgery during the first day of the Congress. 

The program of the Congress included plenary sections and break-out sessions. Our center took an active part in the scientific program of the Congress and was presented by 4 reports: 
- “Modern neurosurgical approach to treatment of prosopalgias” (Jamil A.Rzaev, PhD, Physician-in-chief of the Federal Neurosurgical Center, Novosibirsk); 
- “Spinal cord stimulation in treatment of pain syndromes” (Aleksandr B.Dmitriev, PhD, head of functional division); 
- “Complex surgical treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy. Analysis of activities of the Federal Neurosurgical Center, Novosibirsk” (Dmitry Y.Rogov, a neurosurgeon of functional division); 
- “Effectiveness of stimulation of subthalamic nucleus after destructive surgical procedure in cases of Parkinson’s disease” (Elena A.Khabarova, neurologist of functional division). 

An exhibition of modern equipment and consumables was held in the framework of the event where all interested specialists could have a possibility to communicate directly with manufacturers and suppliers and to discuss different types of instruments and equipment. 

The 1st Russian congress of functional and stereotactic neurosurgeons was held in friendly atmosphere and was filled with various events. It’s important to notice that such event dedicated to stereotactic and functional neurosurgery was held in Russia for the first time and it surely will become regular.
