Results of the XIIth meeting of the Siberian Association of neurosurgeons “SibNeuro”.

On October 30, 2015 the XIIth meeting of the Siberian Association of Neurosurgeons “SibNeuro” took place at the premises of the Federal Neurosurgical Center (Novosibirsk).
The meeting was dedicated to psychosurgery. It’s a precise direction of neurosurgery on treatment of psychic disorders with the help of brain surgery.
Psychosurgical procedure is a well-coordinated work of a psychiatrist and a neurosurgeon. It is these specialists from the Human Brain Institute named after N.P.Bekhtereva and from the Academician N.N.Burdenko Research Institute of Neurosurgery presented their lecture during the meeting.
The Human Brain Institute named after N.P.Bekhtereva performs a program on stereotactic neurosurgery (targeted destruction of deep brain structures inducing morbid conditions). Surgical procedures were offered to hundreds of patients. These were either drug-abused people or patients with obsessive-compulsive disorders when a person is haunted by obsessions and thoughts.
Doctors Andrey I.Kholyavin and Yuriy I.Polyakov shared their experience.
Andrey I.Kholyavin neurosurgeon, radiologist, Doctor of Medicine, senior research assistant of The Human Brain Institute named after N.P.Bekhtereva told about “Stereotactical surgical procedures in surgery of psychic disorders” where he described the methods of neurosurgical procedures with the use of stereotactic frame.
Yuriy I.Polyakov, Candidate of Medicine, the head of psychoneurological division, associate professor, Honored Doctor of the RF (The Human Brain Institute named after N.P.Bekhtereva) presented the audience his lecture on “Stereotaxis application in psychiatric practice”. He also presented the results of follow-up of patients during post-operation period.
The next lecture was dedicated to the possibilities of neurosurgery in treatment of psychic diseases and was presented by Aleksey A.Tomskiy, Candidate of Medicine, a doctor from the group of functional neurosurgery of the Academician N.N.Burdenko Research Institute of Neurosurgery. He presented literature survey and his own results on this direction.
The lecture of Emil D.Isagulyan, Candidate of Medicine, a doctor from the group of functional neurosurgery of the Academician N.N.Burdenko Research Institute of Neurosurgery on “Neurosurgery in treatment of the most resistant pain syndromes” was the last one that day. He described in detail “analgetic inventory” being used in modern neurosurgery in different types of drug-resistant pain syndromes.
After discussion Gleb Y.Bondarenko, a neurosurgeon from the State clinical hospital #29 of Novokuznetsk told about psychosurgical experience of Novokuznetsk neurosurgeons.
Real-time translation was opened to non-local participants from Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Krasnodar and Ulyanovsk.
In conclusion of the XIIth meeting of “SibNeuro” the agenda of the XIIIth meeting of the Association was presented. It was announced about some events that would be held at the premises of the Federal Neurosurgical Center during November-December of 2015. They are as follows:
November 19-20: “Deep Brain Stimulation in Treatment of Movement Disorders”;
November 21: a work-shop on “Monitoring and Correction of Intracranial Pressure in Patients with Traumatic Brain Injuries and Subarahnoidal Haemorrhage”;
November 26: educational course on “The Usage of Motor Systems for Neurosurgery”;
November 30 – December 4: “A Week of Transnasal Surgery”.
All interested specialists are invited to participate in the events held by the Association.
