PROGRAM OF THE PRACTICAL COURSE

April 3, 2017

08:00–08:15 Registration of participants
08:15–08:20 Opening remarks. Welcome words of the Chairman of the Organizational Committee (J.Rzaev).

08:20–09:00 Lecture: «Review of sutural materials used in microsurgical practice», Andrey V.Dubovoy.

The lecture introduces the main types of polymer sutures and needles used in the practice of microvascular anastomosis formation.

09:00–09:20 Lecture: «Techniques and main types of microsurgical anastomosis», Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

Participants of the course will find out information about the main types of microanastomosis (end-to-end, end-to-side, side-to-side). It will also highlight the main stages of vascular anastomosis formation that will allow the audience to know the sequence of operations in performing standard types of anastomosis and also to choose an optimal anastomosis type for each particular situation.

09:20–10:00 Practice: knotting technique on thick silicone tubes 6/5 mm, Andrey V.Dubovoy, Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

The faculty demonstrates different types of knots. During practice the student studies how to make correct knots with thin thread on thick silicone tubes.

10:00–11:00 Practice: overlapping of end-to-end anastomosis on thick silicone tubes 6/5 mm, Andrey V.Dubovoy, Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

The faculty demonstrates a technique of end-to-end anastomosis on thick silicone tubes. This technique acquirement is important and necessary for the next step – working with thick silicone tubes.

11:00–11:20 Break.

11:20–12:30 Practice: overlapping of end-to-end anastomosis on thick silicone tubes 0.5/1 mm, Andrey V.Dubovoy, Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

The faculty demonstrates a technique of end-to-end anastomosis on thick silicone tubes. This technique acquirement is important and necessary for the next step – working with biological material.

12:30–14:00 Practice: overlapping of end-to-end anastomosis on biological material. Andrey V.Dubovoy and Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

The faculty demonstrates a technique of end-to-end anastomosis on biological materials.

14:00–15:00 Break.

15:00–18:00 Practice: overlapping of end-to-side anastomosis on biological material. Andrey V.Dubovoy and Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

The faculty demonstrates a technique of end-to-side anastomosis on biological materials.

April 4, 2017

08:00–08:30 Lecture: «Surgical brain revascularization», Andrey V.Dubovoy.

The lecture highlights the history of brain revascularization and also the main revascularization methods – carotid endarterectomy, extra-intracranial low-flow bypass.

08:30–08:40 Lecture: “Introduction to biological materials”. Oleg Y.Nakhabin.

The lecturer highlights anatomical localization of arteries and veins on biological materials that is necessary for the next step – training on biological materials.

08:40–11:00 Practice: overlapping of end-to-end anastomosis on biological material consequently from both sides. Andrey V.Dubovoy, Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

The faculty demonstrates a technique on end-to-end anastomosis on biological material.

11:00–11:20 Break.

11:20–14:00 Practice: overlapping of end-to-side anastomosis on biological material consequently from both sides. Andrey V.Dubovoy, Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

The faculty demonstrates a technique on end-to-end anastomosis on biological material.

14:00–15:00 Break.

15:00–18:00 Practice: overlapping of end-to-side anastomosis on biological material consequently from both sides. Andrey V.Dubovoy, Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

The faculty demonstrates a technique on end-to-end anastomosis on biological material.

April 5, 2017

08:30–08:50 «Demonstration of mini-approach planning for creation of extra-intracranial vascular anastomosis with the help of computer software, doctor’s workstation». Konstantin S.Ovsyannikov.

The faculty shows the method of planning of surgical mini-approach with the use of 3D model of brain vessels on actual examples, explains the scheme of skin incision marking on head surface.

08:50–13:00 Surgical showcase «Forming of extra-intracranial vascular anastomosis from mini-approach» (live surgery from the OR of the Federal Neurosurgical Center, Novosibirsk. Moderator – Oleg Y.Nakhabin).

Live surgery: Extra-intracranial vascular anastomosis from mini-approach. This is the best method of reinforcement of material learnt and operating skills in the laboratory.
